DESCRIPTION

The company Lemer Pax has developed and produced Novashield® Glass an innovative environmentally-friendly, lead-free radiation protection material based on organic glass obtained from polymer matrices filled with radiation protection nanoparticles. A revolutionary process made from lightweight, end-of-life recyclable materials with an attenuating filler that is as effective as lead.

This glass boasts excellent qualities:

  • Radioprotective: attenuation of all types of radiation (beta, X-ray, gamma, neutron, etc.)
  • Optical: high transparency, with optimum light transmittance approaching that of methyl polymethacrylate (PMMA, Plexiglas®).
  • Mechanical: high impact resistance
  • Fire resistance: this innovative material is self-extinguishing in the event of fire.

This transparent, lead-free organic glass is the material of choice for the design of equipment protecting against neutron and gamma radiation, particularly in the following environments: radiology, radiofluroscopy, nuclear medicine, the nuclear industry, and air and space transport.

FOCUS – Novashield® Glass and its self-extinguishing quality:

It comes from a production process that consumes very little energy and emits very little CO2. It heralds the advent of a topnotch qualitative progress which paves the way for multiple uses and whose use will greatly change and improve the lives of users and patients alike when it is intended for medical activities.

Lemer Pax received for the Region’s support via the Future Investments Programme recovery plan, for the Novashield® Glass development and manufacturing.
