Ensuring personnel protection against ionising radiation while maintaining continuous production through the integration of a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) cabin
The challenge: "Guaranteeing the quality, reliability and safety of products without compromising their integrity"
The Ponticelli group, with 6,000 employees including 3,500 in France, provides services to major players in the energy, industrial and infrastructure sectors, supporting them in the design, construction and maintenance of their facilities. In Pierrelatte, in southern France, the Ponticelli branch — fully dedicated to the nuclear industry — has acquired a Lemer Pax non‑destructive testing cabin for large‑scale components.
Specialised in aluminium pipe welding, as well as stainless steel and carbon steel, Ponticelli Pierrelatte — a subcontractor for major clients such as Orano (Tricastin GB II plant) and EDF — relies on non‑destructive testing to detect internal or external defects (cracks, porosities, inclusions, thickness variations, etc.) without damaging the tubes.
Using an NDT cabin ensures full traceability and regulatory compliance of delivered parts in accordance with the strict standards of the nuclear sector.
It resolves issues of repeatability and objectivity in testing thanks to automation and digital imaging.
From an industrial standpoint, the NDT cabin meets the need to optimise costs and lead times, and helps strengthen trust between subcontractor and client.
